He had tried to jump up on her, but Lizzie had turned her back until he was sitting nicely. He sure was a fast learner. “I know we won’t have any trouble finding you a home,” she said to him. “If I get to foster you, that is.”

Now Jean stood up and clapped her hands for attention. “You all looked terrific in the ring today,” she said. “Sally and I are happy to say that everyone is cleared for a trail ride this afternoon.”

Maria gave Lizzie a high five. “Yes!” she said.

“Yes!” Lizzie echoed. She looked down at Jake, under the table. She’d passed! Trail riding would be great — she hoped — but she had a feeling that Jake would not be coming along. The truth was she would rather just stay back at the farm with this sweet, adorable puppy.
